The friendly with Gorgie Hearts on Wed
12th Dec, will take place at the astrograss pitches at Riccarton,
kick-off 8 p.m. (tbc). Please feel free to come along as your support
would be very welcome.
We had a great turn-out last Sunday - 17 in total which is the highest
number since our very first training session, so very encouraging.
However, Thursday night training at the Meadows is only attracting
about 6 - 8 at present, so we could increase numbers there. It's free,
and it's not overly physical.
Our last Sunday training session of 2007 will be on Sunday 16th Dec,
and the first one of 2008 will be Sunday 6th January. The
Thursday night training sessions will resume after Xmas on Thusday 10th
January 2008.

Looks like we could have our 1st
11-a-side friendly! The Gorgie Hearts have agreed to field an
11-a-side team for a friendly on Wednesday, 12th December!

Mon, 12 Nov 2007 We had a fantastic turnout for the
inaugural Glasgow 5-a-side Tournament on Saturday having a 5 team round
robin competition. The eventual winners were a HotScots team, beating
the 2nd placed team by just one point, also from the HotScots captained
by me. The full Glasgow team never gave up and earned a point
right at the death with a hard-fought draw against Michel's Team.
There was a great atmosphere and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves
win, lose or draw.
A huge thank you to Mark in Glasgow &
Michel at the HotScots for
helping to arrange all this, and to the huge numbers of HotScots (over
20) who made their way to the West Coast for a fantastic tournament.

The first ever gay football derby between Edinburgh & Glasgow will
take place in Glasgow on Saturday 10th November with a kick-off around
2 p.m.
The game is open to boys and girls, so please register your interest as
soon as possible. If you are unable to play in the game but would like
to join us afterwards for the drinkies, again let me know and I will
send out an itinerary to give you a rough idea where we will be.
This is our chance to really get gay football in Scotland going, so
let's get a good number across to the West coast for a good game and a
great night!
Take care,

Registration for the London Gay
World Cup 2008 has now opened. I aim to register an 11-a-side team
before the end of 2007, so please let me know if you wish to be
considered for the team itself. It will cost each individual player
£50 for registration & also a $15 (about £8) IGLFA
registration. Please see the website as listed below for more details.
Naturally, on top of this there will be accommodation and travel
expenses for a week in August in London. However, we will be seeking
funding for this from various sources. No funding is guaranteed but we
will aim to make it as affordable as possible.
So, at the moment, all you have to do is tell me if you would like to
play then I will be asking you for your registration monies towards the
end of November/start December. If friends of yours do not receive
these emails (e.g. friends of Keith/Gav), please pass this information
on to them and come back to me with an expression of interest asap.
Every World Cup I have been to has been fantastic. Let's make 2008 the
first one to have a Scottish team!
Speak soon,

On Sunday 28th there is a company
called Strange Boat who are very interested in making a short film to
appear on the web about the creation & development of HotScots FC.
This will mostly involve one or two volunteers to be interviewed and
then probably some footage filmed at upcoming training sessions and/or
friendlies. Naturally, anyone who does NOT wish to take part in this
and does not wish to be filmed at training, please make your self known
to me and we will ensure that no footage of you is used. Also, if you
have any general concerns or questions, the film-maker himself will be
coming along to the pub afterwards.
Finally, training is going ahead on Sundays at Meadowbank Leisure
Centre from 4 - 5.30 p.m. Numbers were a little disappointing last week
(thanks to those that could make it), but if you are free this Sunday,
it would be great to see you, especially any new members who have
spoken with me over the past week or so. If people do have any problems
getting to Meadowbank due to lack of transport, do make me aware of
this as we may be able to arrange lifts.
Naturally, some of us will be out drinking in Edinburgh on Fri &
Sat nights, so please let me know if you'd like to join us. After
payday, I will also arrange another social over in Glasgow as it's been
some time since we've been there.
Take care, and hope to see you Sunday.

Dear HotScots
The nominations for the Pink Paper's annual reader awards are now open,
and this is a terrific chance to make sure the HotScots get recognised
in this.
This year's awards include three specific
sports questions:
43. Best gay sport group
44. Gay sports personality of the year
45. Gay sports event of the year
In addition,
it would be appreciated if you could nominate our Sponsor, Fitlads, in
the 'Dating website' category. Incidentally, if there are any HotScots
players on Fitlads who would like a free premier account, drop me a
reply to this message and I'll upgrade you :-)
Just a little update on our English shenanigans! Well, our brave little
band of HotScots made the epic journey to Leicester on Friday and
sampled the delights of the jewel of the East Midlands. That didn't
take long so we went to the pubs and chuckled at the locals!
On Saturday, we met the other gay football teams
from all across
England and many of them are all very excited about coming to play us
in friendlies, so expect some competition soon. After we sang the
Scottish National Anthem (500 Miles by The Proclaimers), we again had a
tipple or two, and much merriment was made.
Then, on Sunday, the serious stuff. We arrived
at the tournament
despite them trying to throw us off the scent with roadworks, and we
readied ourselves for battle. In some very tough competition and
playing 6-a-side on an entire half-football pitch, we played hard, but
results didn't really go our way...at all. In 7 games, we lost 4 and
drew 3, so picked up the first ever points for the HotScots. However,
we are still awaiting our first win and first goal (in the right net)
which allows more history to be made! I was denied a goal at the death
of the final game, and also denied the chance to redeem myself for the
softest own goal ever scored in the second game. Bugger!
Still means I've scored the HotScots first ever goal so there!
In all seriousness, I was very proud of our
performances and as
it's the first time we've ever played as a team, we were never
demolished, and were very unlucky not to snatch a victory from our
draws. The actual results were 1-0, 1-0, 0-0, 0-0, 2-0, 1-0, 0-0. It
was an arduous slog for a small squad, and we battled
throughout. Our players never stopped working and played some very
good football in places (just not Leicester - kidding!). We will
continue to improve and grow, and sooner or later, silverware will be
coming over this border! Thank you to our first little
squad for making it such a wonderful weekend, and a special thank
you to Joe at FitLads.com for helping us afford to get there at all.
On Sunday 12th
August, we had the historic first ever exclusive HotScots training
session at Meadowbank Leisure Centre and had a staggering turn-out of
18 people. It was a good kick-about and this will now be a regular
affair from 4 - 5.30 p.m. every Sunday. Thanks to everyone who made
this happen.
Our membership
is now just over the 50 mark and we have just created
a committee. Following our very first appearance in a competitive gay
tournament, namely the Leicester 6-a-side on Sunday 2nd September,
we are in the process of arranging friendlies and preparing for various
tournaments including the Gay World Cup in London in August 2008. For
more information on this event, visit http://www.londonwc2008.co.uk/.
Since forming
in February 2007, it is amazing that we have grown so quickly. I hope
we can continue to do so, and relish the challenges and fun the future
will bring.
